Exhaust
It’s enjoyable to use a single background and foreground color in this exercise — this limitation focuses the experience on texture and value. There’s a quietness to it. It feels almost meditative, really. Sketching at its simplest.
Dusty
I started this one as I often do - sketching a few lines on the canvas to see where the form takes me. It began with a jagged mountain range, but the golden sandy pencil against a midnight background inspired a more dreamy, dune-like appearance.
Exhaust
A circle and some lines quickly turned into a weird, shell-like organic shape. Add some cross-hatching and we have a strange engine exhaust port. Extra support and some wispy trails give this an epheremal exhaust tail-fin poking thru the clouds vibe.
